EARLY CHURCH FATHERS
Papias Bishop of
Hierapolis around 130AD. Eusebius quotes a lot of his sayings about the origins
of the gospels.
Irenaeus Bishop
of Lyons from 177AD. His writings also refer to the origins of the gospels and
he wrote works against heretics, especially Gnostics.
Clement of Alexandria
Clement became the head of the Catechetical School in Alexandria just before 180 AD.
Eusebius records words about them from him.
Origen Origen
became the head of the Catechetical School at Alexandria after Clement in 201 AD.
He was a distinguished and innovative scholar who wrote against heretics.
