General
All the Christian churches support the institution of
marriage. They see it as taking place between a man and a woman. It
is intended to be a lifelong partnership, which elevates the human need to
love and be loved. Many churches see it as a gift or a calling from
God.
Roman Catholic
Church Marriage is a sacrament – one of seven
sacraments in this church. A sacrament n this case is a symbol in the
life of the individual of the love of God. Marriage is part of the way
God directs creation. Man was not intended to live alone. Marriage is
based on what scripture teaches in the Old Testament and the New, so it is
a sacred mystery which comes from God.
Church of
England Marriage is gift of God in creation so that men and
women may live together in trust and in love. Marriage is a means by
which children should be born. Marriage is an institution approved of
by God because Jesus attended a wedding John 2:1-10. Marriage is
created by vows which the man and woman make. These vows are that they
will show mutual respect. They will constantly support each other
during times of hardship and plenty. In sickness and in
health. Their vows are to be lifelong vows – until death.
